The app

What Roots Albania is

Roots Albania is an app for iPhone and Android with audio stories about 211 places in ten Albanian cities, in 28 languages, and it needs no account. The app has ten cities, each with its own map of places: Tirana, Durrës, Berat, Gjirokastra, Kruja, Shkodra, Saranda, Vlora, Korça and Pogradec. Every place has a short introduction and a deeper story of about six minutes, with a male and a female voice in every language. Roots Albania plays stories written by local people. Download a city's audio, then it plays without a connection.

The app is made by ROOTS SHPK, a company registered in Tirana.

Is Roots Albania a guided tour?

No. Roots Albania is not a guided tour: there is no guide, no group, no meeting point and no fixed time.

  • The app has ten cities, each with its own map of places, and you choose which place to listen to and when.
  • Every one of the 211 places has its own two stories.
  • Roots Albania does not take bookings: an activity in the app is arranged with its provider directly.

Who is Roots Albania for?

Anyone who wants to know what they are looking at in an Albanian city: a visitor with an afternoon in Tirana, a family driving the coast between Vlora and Saranda, someone staying a week in Berat or Gjirokastra, or Albanians abroad who want to show their children the places the family comes from.

You do not have to be at a place to hear its story, so you can also listen before the trip.

Which cities and places does Roots Albania cover?

Ten cities and 211 places. Each city page lists every place in that city, and the cities page has all ten.
